This original, hand-thrown fine art vase is an exploration of the volatile, element-driven alchemy of the alternative raku process. Pulled from the roaring kiln at a glowing heat of nearly 1,850°F, the vessel was immediately sealed in a reduction chamber with combustible organic materials. By tightly managing the oxygen deprivation during this precise flash-reduction window, the copper-infused glaze transformed to produce a breathtaking, highly iridescent metallic surface.
Vibrant flashes of brilliant copper, warm bronze, fiery crimson, and subtle plum ripple across the sleek contours of the vessel. The unrepeatable nature of the reduction atmosphere ensures that the shifting, metallic hues on this piece are entirely unique, creating a singular, highly collectible object of contemporary ceramic art that beautifully catches and plays with ambient light.

Collector's Care Instructions
Copper flash raku is an alternative, low-fire ceramic process that leaves the clay body porous and the metallic surface uniquely active. Please follow these museum-quality conservation guidelines to preserve its vibrant colors:
-
Display: This vessel is intended strictly for decorative art display. It is not water-tight and cannot hold liquids.
-
Cleaning: To dust or clean the surface, use only a dry, soft microfiber cloth or a soft-bristled brush. Never submerge the piece in water, apply liquid cleaners, or use abrasive detergents, as moisture can disrupt the delicate copper layer.
-
Environment: To maintain the intensity of the copper flash reduction colors over time, display the piece indoors away from prolonged, intense direct sunlight and high-humidity areas, as oxygen and UV exposure can gradually cause the copper to oxidize further.
