This original, hand-thrown fine art vase is a stunning demonstration of the centuries-old Obvara technique—an alternative firing method originating in Eastern Europe, beautifully reimagined for modern display. After being raised to a glowing heat of approximately 1,650°F, the vessel was quickly plunged into a specific, fermented liquid solution before being quenched in water. This sudden immersion instantly scalded the organic mixture onto the hot clay, leaving behind a mesmerizing, unpredictable surface pattern.
The vase features a distinct spiral texture that wraps around its swelling form, perfectly interacting with the deep amber, warm cream, and rich earthy brown tones produced by the flash-reduction process. Elegant and entirely unique, this collectible piece showcases the dramatic harmony between precise craftsmanship and the beautiful chaos of natural oxidation.

Collector's Care Instructions
Like raku, Obvara pottery is an alternative, low-fire ceramic process that leaves the clay body porous and unglazed. Please follow these archival conservation guidelines:
-
Display: This vessel is intended strictly for decorative art display. It is not water-tight and cannot hold liquids.
-
Cleaning: To dust or clean the surface, use a dry, soft microfiber cloth or a soft-bristled brush. Never submerge the piece in water, apply liquid cleaners, or use abrasive detergents, as moisture can alter the delicate, organically scalded patterns on the clay surface.
-
Environment: Display the piece indoors away from prolonged, intense direct sunlight and extreme humidity fluctuations to preserve the purity of the natural earth tones.
